Chiba Prefecture, which covers the entire Boso Peninsula, is a historical base of the Kanto region, where the Kamakura Shogunate expanded its power and later castle towns were formed all over the country, a land of prosperity for the Kofun culture dating back to ancient Kokubunji, and 25 million years ago it was the driving force behind the Japanese archipelago as it separated from the Eurasian continent. In modern times, along with the satoyama and historical scenery that nurtured this richness, it has developed into one of Japan’s leading industrial areas and an important residential area in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and now has a presence as a distinctive region that can be said to be a miniature version of the Japanese archipelago.

This art festival will feature artworks, music, and live performances in two cities and one town, and visitors will travel the region by train, car, bicycle, and on foot, traveling across the peninsula. Artists from around the world will gather in this frontier region overlooking the Pacific Ocean, marking the start of an international art festival open to the world. Based on the concept of a “Everyone’s Art Factory,” the festival will focus on craftsmanship, hosting artist residencies, symposiums, and workshops. Furthermore, Takeshi Kobayashi, founder of Crook Fields in Kisarazu, will create music and live performances that take advantage of the region’s unique characteristics. In addition, the festival will collaborate with food establishments in each area to create locally sourced menus and new culinary experiences, fostering interaction between visitors and the local community.

In the Boso region, which has nurtured diverse cultures, Chiba Prefecture, Ichihara City, Kisarazu City, and Otaki Town are hosting this art festival to begin community development based on art and culture. The festival aims to nurture local industry, culture, art, and music through local efforts while learning from overseas.
