Dates: 11 March – 21 May 2017

After announcing the appointment of Natasha Ginwala as the curator, Contour, Belgium’s Moving Image Biennale reveals the dates and the team of curatorial advisors for its 8th edition in 2017.

The newly formed team of advisors who will work with Ginwala includes:

Denise Ferreira da Silva, Associate Professor at the Institute for Research on Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice University of British Columbia;

Anselm Franke, curator and writer based in Berlin, Head of Visual Art and Film at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin; and

Judy Radul, Vancouver-based artist who works across sculpture, photography, writing and performance.

Over twenty artists from different parts of the world will be invited to showcase newly commissioned and recent works. Considering Mechelen’s historic role as a legal stronghold—from the vestiges of Europe’s first courthouse, Contour Biennale 8 considers how to survey the field of social justice and its implements as media archaeology such that justice itself is considered a ‘medium’ that is simultaneously a performative, ethical and aesthetic operation.
