OpenART: a biennial art festival conceived, organized, and conceptually driven by artists.

Before its fifth edition in 2015, OpenART received applications from 500 artists from 70 countries.The list of 72 partic­i­pants includes artists from 19 coun­tries across Asia, Europe, South America and America.

This year’s biennial places a special focus on contemporary Chinese art, the result of a collaboration between art curator Feng Boyi and OpenART Director Lars Jonnson. Ai Weiwei, Xu Bing, Song Dong and Yin Xiuzhen are among the participants. Ai Weiwei exhibits above and along a whole street in the city, Köpmangatan (translated as the Merchants’ street). His installation, “Think Different (How to hang workers’ uniforms)”, is a social comment on the harsh conditions workers in Foxconn, the Taiwanese operating in China and Apple’s main supplier of electronic hardware, face on a daily basis.
