9th Bamako Encounters (Mali) seeking African curator, native and residing in an African country. Application Deadline: February 28, 2011.

Given that few curators invited to major international events live and work in Africa, the forthcoming Bamako Encounters Biennial wants to encourage access to this event for young African art critics and exhibition commissioners living in an African country.

The Biennial’s theme for the 9th Bamako Encounters is: “For a sustainable world”. Artistic direction: Michket Krifa and Laura Sérani. Executive Officer: Samuel Sidibé.

Primary mission of the Bamako Encounters is to achieve visibility for African photographic and video artists in Africa and internationally.

For the next edition, scheduled to be held in Bamako in November 2011, Mali’s Ministry of Culture and l’Institut Français are seeking a curator who will have to propose and implement an exhibition project, which will be included in the programming for the next Bamako Encounters, the title of which is “For a Sustainable World”.

The curator is invited to propose an original exhibition project that will make the Bamako Biennial stand out internationally while placing it in a strongly local context and making it accessible and approachable by a broad audience. This popular dimensions is a key concern for the Bamako Biennial.
