Yerevan Biennial Art Foundation will create a platform for debate through ambitious contemporary international visual art practices and theory, in Yerevan and the wider regions.

The Yerevan Biennial Art Foundation is committed to an all-encompassing approach to establish a creative ecosystem interconnecting the realms of the arts, culture and education. This platform exists for public engagement and operates locally, nationally and internationally. Central to the role of the Yerevan Biennial Art Foundation is the implementation of formal and informal education particularly in relation to the arts and creative industries. The Foundation encourages tourism, fosters cultural exchange, and strengthens cultural diplomacy, capacity and infrastructure in the region and abroad by means of strong cultural, educational and tourism partnerships.

The Foundation has been established to develop and execute initiatives year round, among them the inaugural Yerevan Biennial 2021. The Yerevan Biennial will act as a cohesive force in the arts, cultural, economic and social sectors in Yerevan by bringing together partners from across sectors. The Foundation offers its stakeholders, clients and participants a public forum and discursive platform that nurture and value collective dialogue, diversity and pluralism.

Yerevan Biennial Art Foundation (YBAF) will create a platform for debate through ambitious contemporary international visual art practices and theory, in Yerevan and the wider regions.

YBAF will actively contribute to a structural reform of the educational system in the country, with particular attention to art-histories (not only local narrative), art-making, critical thinking and writing. By establishing a dynamic system of education through multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary teaching, formal and informal education and innovate pedagogical tools.

YBAF will actively contribute to the shaping of a new national image, one of openness and modernity. As an often under-appreciated tourist destination, the Yerevan Biennial Art Foundation will highlight this new Armenia by fostering exchange through cultural projects and diplomacy, institutional partnerships, collaborations, cultural exchanges solidly positioning Armenia in the global arena.

The initiative for the Yerevan Biennial comes at an increasingly dynamic and favorable environment for contemporary arts in Armenia and the Caucasus region. Launching the Yerevan Biennial will provide an opportunity for visitors to explore Armenia’s culture, beautiful nature, delicious cuisine and friendly vineyards where east meets west.
