The Pittsburgh Biennial started at the Center for the Arts as a way to celebrate artists in the region.

The Biennial debuted in 1994 at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Over the years it continued to grow in scope and location, becoming the largest survey of regional contemporary art in Western Pennsylvania.

As a platform for established and emerging artists, the Pittsburgh Biennial speaks to the rich texture of the city and its increasing momentum as a dynamic incubator and catalyst for artists.
