31st Bienal de São Paulo: Open Meetings.

As part of the 31st Bienal de São Paulo and its core educational impulse, the curatorial team (Charles Esche, Galit Eilat, Nuria Enguita Mayo, Pablo Lafuente and Oren Sagiv) is programming a series of regular ‘open meetings’ with art professionals and general audiences. These meetings, which take place in São Paulo and other cities throughout Brazil, work both as a research tool and a critical assessment of the curatorial process, engaging artists, critics, curators and the general public in a process that will render open the process of organising the Bienal.

Each of the meetings, organised by the Bienal in collaboration with local institutional partners, adopts a different format in order to explore the diverse possibilities of public discussion forums and in response to contrasting urgencies. The meetings will formulate diverse questions and expose the intentions, workings and developments within the project for the 31st Bienal.

The next meetings will happen in Fortaleza (Universidade de Fortaleza, 7 Nov, 2013), Recife (Espaço Fonte, 13 Nov 2013), São Paulo (Casa do Povo + Centro Cultural São Paulo, 29 November 2013), Salvador (December 2013) and Belém (January 2014). Many others will come in Brazil and abroad until December 2014.

All the meetings will be documented and critically assessed by independent reviewers, with the resulting material made available through the Bienal’s website in order to provide access to the curatorial process as an open pedagogical process.
