17. Bienal de Cerveira
Crisis and Transformation
27 July – 14 September, 2013
Artistic director: Augusto Canedo
Theme:
Of Greek origin (κρßσις,-εως, ἡ) the concept of crisis, is used in politics and economics, sociology, and medicine, among other areas of knowledge, particularly applied to the Psychology of Learning and Development, referring to the idea of change from a state to another, implicit to the process of evolution and development.
In Art, the idea of change and evolution that has been following and characterized throughout its history, leads us to evoke the effervescence of a period beginning from the appearance of the first vanguards of the twentieth century and allows us to question and speculate their future.
In the phase that emerges after the End of a Rhetoric in which consummates the dematerialization and the assumption of extrinsic values of the artwork, is still the idea of Rupture, Loss and fast substitutions, which bring the balance into question.
By definition of its nature, the culture criticism, inaugurates and discusses the future, every day that goes…
