The forum boasts about 30 senior artists from various disciplines. They include C N Karunakaran, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Akkitham Vasudevan among others. The Kochi Biennale Foundation is planning to organize the event once every two years in the city.
On April 11, 2012 Reghu Nathan K., Anto K. G. and K. L. Leon presented a memorandum sent to the government in support of the Biennale signed by various artists and literary personalities. The list includes names like C.N. Karunakaran, artist; film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan; writer Zachariah, Akkitham Vasudevan and Sasidharan Nair, both faculty members at M.S. University, Baroda; poets Sachidanandan, D. Vinayachandran and Ranjit Hoskote, art critic, among nearly 300 people in the field of art and culture.
The artists who represent the forum are of the opinion that those against the Biennale have not clearly understood the exposure such an event would give local artists. “The Biennale provides a global platform for artists in Kerala; for the young and aspiring as well as veterans,” says Leon K L.
On April 20, 2012 at 10 am artists will meet in front of Durbar Hall Art Gallery, Kochi to express their support.
