The curatorial collective What, How & for Whom (WHW) has been appointed as the artistic directors for the fifth edition of Skulptur Projekte Münster, a renowned international exhibition of contemporary sculpture. The exhibition, which takes place every ten years in the city of Münster, is set to return in the summer of 2027.
Founded in 1999 in Zagreb, Croatia, WHW is known for its innovative and socially engaged approach to curatorial practice. The collective, comprised of Ivet Ćurlin, Nataša Ilić, and Sabina Sabolović, will be the first all-female artistic direction for Skulptur Projekte Münster.
The appointment of WHW marks a significant milestone for the exhibition, which was established in 1977 by Klaus Bußmann and Kasper König. König, who passed away earlier this month, served as the exhibition’s long-term artistic director.
In a statement, the WHW collective expressed their excitement about the opportunity to curate Skulptur Projekte Münster. They stated their intention to bring new artistic perspectives and approaches to the exhibition, focusing on addressing the social and political challenges of the present. The collective also emphasized their commitment to building upon the legacy of feminism, collectivism, and public art experimentation that has characterized previous editions of the exhibition.
The fifth edition of Skulptur Projekte Münster is expected to feature a diverse range of contemporary sculptures, installations, and performances by artists from around the world. The WHW collective’s curatorial vision is anticipated to bring a fresh and innovative perspective to the exhibition.
