Asana Bina Seni is a learning program organized by the Yogyakarta Biennale Foundation since 2019, as a form to develop interdisciplinary contemporary art discourse. This critical thinking is not only related to how art functions as a space for the artists’ ideas articulation and readings of various phenomena, but also to how the art system itself is carried out with various models of power relations. The ability to read the power relations between the circle of actors and agents in this field is one of the important abilities to make art one of the paths of social advocacy.
ASANA BINA SENI #6
This year, the 6th batch of the Asana Bina Seni program works with the theme of “Art and Activism”. In this edition, participants are not asked to simply create works or writings for a joint exhibition. This year they are challenged to find their own presentation methods and do not have to be finished works but can also be on-progress works. Participants in the 2024 Asana Bina Seni program will formulate their ideas and concepts after going through a series of classes and incubations held during March – July 2024, the provided materials are about aesthetics and village potential, social mapping, gender and ecological discourse, and awareness of archiving initiatives.
