Founded in 1998, Liverpool Biennial is the UK biennial of contemporary art and has commissioned over 340 new artworks and presented work by more than 480 artists from around the world. Taking place every two years across the city in public spaces, galleries, museums and online, the Biennial commissions international artists to make and present work in the context of Liverpool. Liverpool Biennial is underpinned by a programme of research, education, residencies and commissions.
Following the recent appointment of its current Director as Executive Director of Queens Museum in New York, Liverpool Biennial is seeking a Director who will build on the achievements of the last 20 years. We are looking for an experienced, resilient and confident leader with a compelling vision to inspire, move and challenge audiences locally, nationally and internationally, and who will nurture a fast paced, high-performing, innovative and supportive working culture.
With an expert knowledge of international contemporary art, you will have a proven track record of directing national and international projects with multiple artists, curating exhibitions, commissioning public art works, and increasing public engagement whilst sustaining integrated learning programmes. You will be commercially astute, flexible, and have extensive, well-developed networks, plus the ability to think and act ahead of the curve, offering exemplary leadership and vision. This expertise will be underpinned by experience of managing teams well and working at senior level within an arts organisation. Advocacy and diplomatic skills are essential as is a collaborative nature, and considerable experience of public speaking, fundraising and partnership, regionally and internationally.
