JOB SUMMARY
Performa is seeking temporary cover for our Individual Giving and Special Events Associate in the run-up to the Performa 15 Biennial. The position is an exciting opportunity to represent Performa as the high profile link to our membership groups, high level donors and sponsorship partners. As part of the Performa Team he/she will collaborate with the curatorial and production team to deliver a program of innovative and engaging events.
The Individual Giving and Special Events Associate is responsible for developing and managing individuals fundraising strategies and programs to further Performa’s mission. This position is responsible for creating and executing a full range of annual and long term fund development strategies supporting an operating budget of $1.5M and a program budget in excess of $1M.
The Individual Giving and Special Events Associate will develop individual solicitations, annual donor acquisitions and renewals campaigns, donor cultivation and benefit fulfillment, major gift solicitations, planned giving programs, endowment and special events. Candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills, a team oriented attitude as well as a high-energy approach to leadership. The position reports to the Founding Director and Director of Development of Performa and works closely with the Board, the patrons’ circles and Performa’s staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
FUNDRAISING AND SPECIAL EVENTS
• Develop and manage Performa’s donor circles including organizing cultivation events and solicitation strategies.
• Grow our individual donor base, manage annual giving campaign and help Director and senior staff cultivate major gifts and biennial project specific funding.
• Work with the Performa Team to develop and manage a program of cultivation events that further engages individual donors and supports Performa’s fundraising targets, including, but not limited to, the Performa 15 biennial.
• Coordinate membership circle committee events and meetings and maintain timelines and budgets for all cultivation events.
• Collaborate with Sponsors and in-kind supporters on special events.
• Prepare and provide support to the directors, and board members for solicitation.
• Generate, with appropriate staff, all donor/prospect solicitation material and correspondence.
• Strengthen systems and strategies to promote special event coordination and implement cultivation strategies, such as innovative uses of technology and social media, for instance having strong and lasting strategies to get instagram followers, etc.
• Ensure maintenance of clear, complete and up-to-date records on contributions and pledges, using Performa’s database (Patron Manager).
• Prepare periodic reports for presentation to the board.
• Other duties as assigned by line manager.
MANAGEMENT
• Work with Board of Directors, the Directors and the senior staff to assure that Performa’s individuals development plan supports the organization’s strategic plan and objectives.
• Work with Senior Staff to develop fundraising initiatives in support of their programs.
• Supervise and manage event consultants and contractors, and interns.
• Attend all Performa functions.
EXPERIENCE
Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of demonstrable expertise in all the areas of responsibilities of this job. Candidate must have proven development and fundraising experience in a nonprofit arts organization and a successful track record in individual, corporate and/or major giving. Candidate must possess strong interpersonal and motivational skills, organizational ability, and superior oral and written communication skills as well as a thorough understanding of the tools of fundraising combined with the ability to work closely with a Board of Directors and as part of a high-energy team. Demonstrated success in soliciting and securing gifts from individuals is essential. Knowledge of contact management systems and databases is needed (Patron Manager), as are superior skills in data management and manipulation and use of word processing skills to generate mailings and communications with donors and VIPS.

MARKETING MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY
Performa’s Marketing Manager develops and implements an integrated marketing strategy that reflects the domestic and international ambitions of the organization and will deliver its development goals. The Marketing Manager will plan and execute the overall marketing strategies for Performa and the Performa Biennials as well as be responsible for an earned income target from sales and distribution delivered through box office, sales of editions and distribution of publications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead the strategic planning, development and implementation of all marketing and sales activity to build a broader profile and reputation for Performa and meet income targets.
• Working with colleagues, research and solicit new business sponsorship deals.
• Develop new business opportunities and partnerships with other organizations and the Biennial Consortium.
• Work with senior team and external advisors to maximize revenue from sales and develop new initiatives in line with income targets.
• Manage the development and implementation of all marketing campaigns including print, online, social media, book distribution and sales of editions to the highest standard and to schedule.
• Draft, edit, and proofread all marketing copy in coordination with Performa’s curatorial team and Biennial Consortium organizations.
• Manage and work with external graphic designers ensuring consistency of brand identity across communications platforms.
• Plan and execute all advertising campaigns.
• Work closely with Performa’s public relations contractors to meet all public profile and branding targets. Maintain press relations in between Biennials.
• Maintain marketing budget and assist in budget development.
• Lead the development and updating of Performa’s websites, working with web developers to design and maintain online presence.
• Manage database and direct mail campaigns.
• Develop audience and market research initiatives and based on findings draw up plans to maximize participation.
• Oversee all e-news communication — content strategy and list management.
• Coordinate the preparation of annual reports.
MANAGEMENT
The Marketing Manager supervises the work of Performa Magazine Editor, Marketing Interns and temporary marketing staff and will oversee and manage the work of external contractors, such as designers and printers. The Marketing Manager reports to the Founder/Director and to the Managing Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrable capacity to fulfill senior level responsibilities in marketing and/or sales in the visual or performing arts sector.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Extensive knowledge of contemporary art and performance.
• Competence in analyzing marketing data and producing reports.
• Digital marketing and social media experience.
• Experience working with graphic designers to create print and digital materials.
• Ability to think quickly, problem-solve, and make decisions in high-pressure situations.
• Strong organizational skills, including an ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Diplomatic attitude and ability to negotiate between several different parties.
• Ability to cultivate and broker corporate sponsorship.

PRESS MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY
Performa’s Press Manager develops and implements an integrated public relations strategy that reflects the domestic and international ambitions of the organization and will deliver its development goals. The Press Manager will plan and execute the overall communications strategies for Performa and the Performa Biennial. The Press Manager will be responsible for developing and nurturing relationships with all media and for ensuring the growth of Performa’s profile across all media platforms nationally and internationally.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Press and publicity related responsibilities
• Act as primary press contact for Performa the organization, the Performa biennial, and Performa’s Founding Director, including fielding all day-to-day requests, creating schedules for visiting members of the press, and consistent follow-up on all outstanding pitches.
• Develop and execute strategic press campaigns for the Performa biennial and Performa’s year-round public programming, benefits, and other special events as they arise including a timeline and publicity plan for the biennial as a whole as well as individual publicity plans for all Performa commissioned projects.
• Pitch and place stories, interviews, television segments, etc., about Performa, the Performa Biennial, Performa’s Founding Director, and individual Performa curators and artists to print, broadcast, radio, and online outlets both locally and internationally, including continuous follow-up on all outstanding pitches.
• Maintain and cultivate relationships with press in all media and act as the liaison between all Performa artists and the press in arranging interviews, answering follow-up questions, etc.
• Write, edit, and proofread all press materials, including press releases, press kits, pitch letters, images, promotional texts, artist biographies, etc.
• Liaise with members of the press and arts organizations in cities that the Founding Director travels to, including identifying and scheduling interviews and one-on-ones, in order to maximize press coverage internationally.
• Develop innovative online tools and press outreach in response to extensive global interest in Performa.
• Organize and coordinate with publicists from the Performa consortium (the NYC art organizations that contribute to the biennial) to develop a unified and consistent approach to biennial publicity and outreach, and to target and pitch press for specific artists and events.
• Liaise with Archival Photographer and other freelance photographers to obtain and download event photos, and then select and distribute press images as quickly as possible.
• Plan and produce special press events including cocktails, previews, and a biennial press conference.
• Oversee intern staff to manage press invitations, ticket lists and check-in for all Performa-produced events, organize and maintain press clippings and website updates, distribute press images, do follow-up and maintain smooth operation and distribution of information.
MANAGEMENT
The Press Manager supervises the work of Performa Communications Intern, and temporary staff and will work closely with Performa’s Communications Associate and external contractors, including liaising with Performa’s PR agents. The Press Manager reports to the Founding Director.
