Whitstable Biennale is looking for a talented individual to manage the 2014 programme.

Whitstable Biennale is a festival of contemporary visual art, specialising in commissioning ambitious and experimental new work in film and performance. The seventh edition of the festival will be held from 31st May – 15th June 2014. The festival takes place in a wide range of indoor and outdoor venues around the town (most are not traditional art venues).

The successful applicant will be enthusiastic and energetic (even when faced with long and challenging days), with experience of working in the visual arts and live events, and with a flexible and methodical approach.

Main responsibilities include

  • Venue management – coordinate use of each festival venue
  • Equipment – liaise with our AV company
  • Venue risk assessments / H&S
  • Volunteer management
  • Publication distribution
  • Sponsorship – ensure that targets are met and sponsorship contracts fulfilled.
  • Installation – support the Biennale curatorial team
  • Headline work – support development and delivery of the headline work
  • Festival delivery – ensure that events run smoothly, and are well staffed

Person Specification includes

  • Considerable experience of festival or live event management
  • Experience of working with contemporary visual artists
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with audio-visual and venue equipment
  • Experience of coordinating volunteers or staff
  • Good understanding of health & safety for venues and in the public realm
  • Experience of working to tight budgets and deadlines
  • Excellent negotiation and people skills
  • Good knowledge of Whitstable, and an established network of contacts
  • UK Driving license, access to a car during the festival

The complete fee is £7000 including personal expenses such as travel. We have calculated this as £175 p/d for 40 days, with a contracting period of w/c 17th March to 20th June 2014.
