Bienal Internacional de Curitiba

Considering the proposal of the International Biennial curator of Curitiba that affirms and recognizes the autonomy and precedence of artistic creation without framing work on a topic or title in advance – so giving up the traditional idea theme / title of the show – the Young Curators Group proposed choices from the relevance and quality indicating vectors in contemporary art.

Starting from the fertile tension between global and local, the group’s proposal replaces the traditional figure of the ” local curator ” of previous editions, develops procedural strategies, open and horizontal without establishing hierarchies or groups geopolitical periphery and centre.

The group, formed by Dahn Stephanie Batista, Angelo Luz, Debora Santiago, Kamilla Nunes and Renan Araujo brings its visual concepts and approaches as well as their various universes in art, challenging a common denominator least in the group’s proposal. Thus the absence of declared theme does not mean arbitrariness for the group, but the constant negotiation of aesthetic and social positions recognizing the artistic authority, his unbreakable will and a fascination of art.

The group proposes from the collective strength of the relational processes and a gesture horizontality based on an identification of the form – biennial for the city, and rewrite strategic representational between local – national – global.

The curatorial proposal of young curators worked autonomously with two procedures: guest local, national and international artists and and artists whose work is contained in Curitiba’s public collection that comes also the three the local – national and international – sewing just an approximation and for greater integration with the cultural institutions of Curitiba.

The exhibition takes place in the Young Curators six spaces: Casa Andrade Muricy, Solar do Barão / Museu da Gravura e Museu da Fotografia, Museum de Arte da Universidade Federal do Paraná UFPR ( MusA ) , Museu Metropolitano deArte (MUMA) and Jardim Botânico, is spreading like a fractal plot in the city. In all venues the group acted collectively, thus the multiple look and its constant negotiation permeates the entire show.
