M+, Museum for Visual Culture of the WKCDA is seeking exceptional candidates to join their internship programme for the upcoming 55th Venice Biennale (June – November 2013).

The Hong Kong participation is co-presented by M+ of the WKCDA and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council are currently offering the following internships in Venice, Italy:

Technical Intern (1 month) 

You will be reporting to the Technician of M+ and responsible for:

  • assisting in the installation of the exhibition and related events; 
  • assisting in the handling of artworks; and 
  • assisting in the construction and assemblage of display structures  

You should possess:
1)have technical skills in carpentry, audio visual,exhibition production or other relevant areas;

2) preferably prior experiences in handling and installing artwork and AV equipment;
3) physical ability to carry out duties such as lifting, moving and climbing ladders, etc.;
4) sound knowledge in health and safety related issues;
5) a good command of spoken and written English and Chinese is essential;
6) good teamwork spirit and be able to work independently;
7) a good sense of craft and an eye for detail; and
8) an interest in contemporary art and developing a career as a professional art technician.

Exhibition Intern (7 weeks) 

You will be reporting to the Project Curator and responsible for:

  • assisting the curators in the realisation of the exhibition and related events;
  • the smooth daily operation and safety of the exhibition site and artworks in Venice;
  • assisting visitors and providing guidance as necessary;
  • answering press and marketing related queries, and directing them as necessary;
  • reporting numbers of visitors, press and general observations on a weekly basis.
  • writing a detailed report of experience after the closing of the exhibition

You should possess:
1) a good knowledge in and passion for contemporary art;
2) a recognized university degree in Fine Art, History of Art or a related subject;
3) at least one year working experience in the contemporary art field;
4) high proficiency in spoken and written English and Chinese is essential;
5) good teamwork spirit and be able to work independently; and
6) a strong interest to develop a career in the field.

The duration of the above two posts will be:

Post 1: 1 May to 4 Jun 2013
Post 2: 7 week period for these dates:
22 May – 9 July;
8 July – 25 August;
 24 August – 11 October;
10 October – 29 November
